Overcoming Depression with having Resilience

By: Inspire

Depression isn’t an easy battle to fight.  And, chances are you either know someone who is or has suffered from depression or you are or have suffered yourself.

The World Health Organization [WHO] writes, “Depression is a common illness worldwide, with more than 300 million people affected.  Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges in everyday life.  Especially when long-lasting and with moderate or severe intensity, depression may become a serious health condition.  It can cause the affected person to suffer greatly and function poorly at work, at school, and in the family.  At its worst, depression can lead to suicide.  Close to 800 000 people die due to suicide every year.  Suicide is the second leading cause of death in 15-29-year-olds.”

Inspire loves quotes.  Quotes help us by putting our feelings and emotions into words and give us the realization that we are not alone: in short, they provide us with HOPE.

The love we receive from others is one of the strongest emotions that can shine light into the darkness of depression.  It is the only thing that if anything, that can, keep someone from self-harm or suicide. Love is the eyes that see others’ strength and courage when all they see of themselves is weakness and fear.  The quote below is an example of those eyes.

“You say you’re ‘depressed’ – all I see is resilience.  You are allowed to feel messed up and inside out. It doesn’t mean you’re defective – it just means you’re human.”
