Do you ever wonder about other women’s lives? Like actual real day-to-day, hard working women? So often I meet one and think wow, she looks so great, works so hard and seems to get so much done! I wonder what she is doing to keep it all together like that. Or hear about someone and think wow, I wonder what she is doing so well, and how can she do all she does… without collapsing. We admire them and often have them as mentors.
With that in mind, Pathways will be interviewing women and posting their interviews here in our community journal. These are women I know personally or have been recommended to me as being women who inspire others to do more and be better.; women who motivate others and are truly beautiful inside and out. Let’s peek into their lives just a bit, shall we?
Farheen, a dentist by profession, is a very graceful person. She’s very enthusiastic and energetic as always. She has a can-do attitude that always enjoys life as it goes. She’s married and has two beautiful children. She grew up in Jeddah but moved back to India for higher studies and work. She is also one of our monthly columnists. Do check out her column Talk Health With Farheen
Without any more delay, lets peak inside a bit and see what makes her tick.
We asked her
- Words that touch your soul?
“I trust you, Allah!”
- Greatest comfort?
My family (I don’t know what I would do without them, my support system).
- Things you should be proud of?
My ability to come out unscathed in any situation (yea well! most situations) and my unwavering faith in God.
- Goals and dreams present and future?
I want to be a world-famous Public Health Dentist. I want to do something no one has. I want to make a difference in my field.
- What are you grateful for?
My family, my friends, my health and my Deen.
- Places you want to go
I love to travel! The list is endless 🙂
- Favorite things to make or do?
Watch a nice movie on Netflix, hang out with my girlfriends, eat out at one of my favorite places or go on a fun trip with my family (all these are my favorites!)
- Childhood dreams?
Can’t really remember. Maybe I had a lot of dreams, or I didn’t have any! Both way, I had an amazing childhood, and I would do anything to go back even for a bit!
- Write about a person in your life that you’re especially grateful for and why?
I guess my Dad. He is wonderful. He is the best father anyone could ask for. He is one of the nicest human beings I have ever seen. He is my safety net. He never lets me down. He never questioned my decisions ever and had always supported me financially and emotionally every single time (it is difficult putting into words what I really mean).
- What skills or abilities are you thankful to have?
I love meeting people. I communicate well. I am a people’s person. I can connect to people and get along fine in any social setting. And people who know me well say, I have this uncanny ability to make people feel good. I am a good listener too!
- How is where you are in life today different than a year ago–and what positive changes are you thankful for?
A year ago, I was not doing really well. I had postpartum depression and was pretty low. Everything seemed negative. I was falling into an abyss and looked like I will never make it. But things have changed alhamdulillah. Immense support from my family and friends helped. I turned to God. I kept asking the Almighty to give me peace of mind. I joined a few support groups, and I became busy. And with time, things settled back.
- What about the city you live in are you grateful for?
I love Jeddah. This is home for me. I grew up here; I did my schooling here. Every beautiful memory from my childhood is associated with Jeddah. I am grateful for everything this city has to offer. I cannot name a few 🙂
- What materialistic items are you most grateful for?
Well, I love ‘things,’ I cannot name items I am grateful for. But if you insist, ‘my home’!?
- Who has done something this week to help you or make your life easier and how can you thank them?
My darling husband. Bless him! He makes every day of my life easier, not just the past week. How do I thank him? I have no idea!
- What elements of nature are you grateful for and why?
Living in Jeddah, I guess I am thankful for the beach. There is nothing a few hours in corniche cannot cure. Corniche is LOVE! I love going to the beach and lazing around, sipping a cup of hot coffee. Definitely my ‘Friday goals’ 🙂
- What part of your morning routine are you most thankful for?
Those ‘one or two hours’ after I wake up when the whole house is sleeping. My daughter would be in school, my husband and my baby would still be sleeping. I usually have a cup of coffee or flavored tea, or Karak chai (deciding what hot beverage to have that morning is another fun aspect!). And I sit on my favorite sofa and reflect on the previous day, decide about the present day or just glance through Instagram sipping the hot beverage. That calm before the storm or those two hours before the hustle and bustle of the day starts; I love to savor it. That is my favorite morning routine.
- When was the last time you laughed uncontrollably—relive the memory?
That was just last week when my girlfriends came over. We were talking about our school days, and something came up, and I remember laughing till our stomachs ached!
